Henry Wilkinson - Sterling Silver CLARET JUG / Decanter - 1860
Henry Wilkinson - Sterling Silver CLARET JUG / Decanter - 1860
£1,250.00
Description
An excellent example of a large and impressive premium quality Victorian silver mount claret jug.
The mount features a unusual vertical lined design following the design of the cut and frosted body, topped with ornate Georgian-style finial. The bulbous glass body features an all-over frosted decoration, with polished lines and oval printies 1/3rd of the way from the base. The double twist handle and frosted design leads us to believe that the body was made by the Stourbridge firm for Richardsons.
Unboxed.
Markings: The silver collar is fully hallmarked for Henry Wilkinson & Co, Sheffield, 1880, the inside of the lid with matching sponsors mark and lion passant.
Size: Measures 11 1/2" (29 cm) tall.
Condition: The jug is in excellent condition considering that this piece is over 150 years old. The silver shows no splits or damage and has a nice soft silver patina. There are no monograms, the hinge is secure although a little loose from age. The crystal is in excellent order, with no damage or cloudiness. Please see final images above.
