Description
An exceptional English oval shaped Arts and Crafts sterling silver tea service with flower and leaf chased ornamentation. Comprising a teapot, a creamer and a sugar bowl. Hammered finish.
Similar set sold at Christies in 2005 for £10,500. (David & Vivian Campbell collection).
Finial with Lapis Lazuli bead. Made in Sheffield 1911.
Markings: Fully signed for Ramsden & Carr to the underside "Omar Ramsden Et Alwin Carr Me Fecervnt MCMXI", plus full hallmarks - please see images above.
Size: Tea pot height 16.5 cm. Length 27.5 cm. Total weight approx. 1.33 kg.
Condition: Patina due to age and use, including some fine surface scratches from polishing. Joinery by teapot's handle with some irregularities and gaps between spacers and silver, joinery “dowel-pins” have also been pushed inwards (please see images). Teapot's spout has some very minor dents and nicks. Sugar bowl's foot somewhat oblique at one end leading to a very small rocking action.
