Description
An excellent example of a large and impressive premium quality Victorian silver mount claret jug.
The mount features a unusual abstract floral design on a Dresser style shape with half-spherical lid and wide trefoid ended handle. The compressed ovoid crystal Stourbridge-made body deeply cut in the Russian cut / Brilliant cut pattern over cut foot.
Unboxed.
Markings: The silver collar is fully hallmarked for Plante & Co, Birmingham, 1894, the lid with matching marks bar the sponsor's mark.
Size: Measures 11 1/2" (29 cm) tall.
Condition: The jug is in excellent condition considering that this piece is over 100 years old. The silver shows no splits or damage and has been professionally polished. There are no monograms, the hinge is secure. The crystal is a little stained to the very base interior, hidden when filled. Being a heavy piece regretfully there are 3 chips to the base - please see final images above.
