Description

A silver & crystal claret jug.

This fine and unusual sterling silver and crystal claret jug is made in the Edwardian taste. The crystal body being panel cut with horizontal lines (possibly Stuart Crystal), the design could almost move into the Art Deco style. The silver mount being quite Christopher Dresser influence with the plain handle, with the addition of an anthemion style thumb opener.

Markings: Fully hallmarked for .925 sterling silver, Birmingham 1908. Makers mark is partially obscured, it could be either Blanchensee or Stewart Dawson, both having similar shaped hallmark at this date.

Size: Measures 10 3/8" (26 cm) tall.

Condition: Item is in excellent order. The silver has been bright polished and shows no signs of monograms or removals. The interior of the glass has been professionally cleaned, although there are significant scratches to the underside of the base from being stood in a cabinet etc. Please see images above.
