Silver - Hawksworth Eyre Whisky & Brandy Decanters Jugs Flasks - 1866

£500.00

Description

A pair of interesting silver & glass decanters / jugs.

Made by the firm of silversmiths Hawksworth Eyre & Co, this pair of amber glass flasks have sterling silver mounts and stoppers, the mounts engraved "W" and "B", mainly because you can't / couldn't view the contents.

Some nice engine turning around the neck, with vintage corked stoppers. The glass is mouth blown, and in a compressed circular shape, with looped handle and indented base.

Unusual to have these made with silver rather than the standard silver plate.

Unboxed.

Markings: Fully hallmarked for .925 sterling silver, Sheffield 1866. Please see image above.

Size: Measure 8 1/4" (21 cm) tall.

Condition: The flasks are in excellent condition, commensurate with age and use, these are over 150 years old. The silver is in good condition, with no monograms or repairs, but some light dinks and dents giving a wonderful aged patina. The glass bodies are both in good order, no cracks or chips, although one handle has a burst bubble on it (Whisky) and there are a couple of very minor small scratches as one would expect with items this age. The glass is quite a dark brown / red so difficult to ascertain internal condition. Please see images above.
