Solid Sterling Silver - HIP FLASK - Jane Brownett - Earls Coronet 1872
£700.00
Description
An early example of a rare and interesting antique sterling silver hip flask.
This is a fine, rare and premium quality example that features a detachable screw top lid, connected by a chain to the main body, all mounted on an oval / egg shaped body. A smaller, more compact size from the retailer "P & F Shafer of 27 Piccadilly, London. Of Royal interest, this piece has an Earl coronet (5 strawberry leaves and 4 pearls) on the front, above the initials B A. We've been unable to trace the identity of the original owner.
Comes without the original box, but supplied with one of our grey velvet pouches.
Markings: Fully hallmarked for .925 sterling silver, dated London 1872. Sponsor's mark "JB" within a rectangle, we think most likely to be Jane Brownett. Weight of 79 grams.
Size: Measures 4 1/4" (10.5 cm) tall, 2 1/4" (5.8 cm) wide. Approx. 3 fl oz, 80 ml.
Condition: Item is in excellent condition, professionally cleaned and (lightly) polished, ready to go. Engraving sharp and clear. Some very very slight signs of use commensurate with age - please see images above.
