Sterling Silver Gilt - Two Handled Georgian Loving Cup - 1813
Sterling Silver Gilt - Two Handled Georgian Loving Cup - 1813
£900.00
Description
An excellent example of an antique early 19th century English two handled trophy / loving cup.
From a private collection, this early and exceptional piece features a classic antique Georgian design with a thick gauge of silver to form the body with chased Rococo design embellishment. The scroll handles have fine foliate decoration. The cup is of high quality which is evident when held in the hand.
The later-chased embellishments on the cup are particularly a fine example with beautiful and 'crisp' forms of flowers and natural shapes which are elegantly decorated through the cup. The interior is gilded with a rich gold tone that presents a lustrous and regal shine.
There are no leaks in this cup and thus liquids can be held within.
415 grams.
Item is in excellent condition commensurate with age, overall good condition, small dents and dinks and surface marks as to be expected with a 200+ years worth of history and use. The gilding is a little worn to the cartouche and extremities. The is a little folding within the silver on one cartouche, possibly the sign of earlier engraving removal. Please see the images above.
