Sterling Silver - Henry Holland 1 Pint Mug / Tankard - 1867
Sterling Silver - Henry Holland 1 Pint Mug / Tankard - 1867
£700.00
Description
An excellent example of an antique sterling silver 1 pint tankard / mug.
This finely engraved mug has the sponsor's mark of Henry Holland, of the firm of Holland, Aldwinckle and Slater. The gently tapering shaped tankard features a 2 section reeded ring decoration, with a fabulous large family crest (we think that this is likely to be the Irish "Diamond" family). The interior of the tankard retains the original gilding.
Hallmarked for 925 sterling silver, London and 1867. Weight 292 grams.
This piece has been lightly polished. The tankard holds liquid and does not leak. We have only given this the lightest of cleans to remove tarnish, and thus leaving the crest nice and sharp with excellent patina. Around the base of the tankard are lots of tiny pinprick marks commensurate with age and enthusiastic use! Please see images above.
