Description
An extraordinary example of a very finely carve large Shell Cameo, depicting the classical allegory of "Night & Day". The veiled Goddess Nyx (representing night) drawing her dark veil across the sky, bringing night to earth, accompanied by her daughter Hemera (day) who will return light back to earth the following dawn. The whole panel is surrounded by finely worked "Cannetille" on a 18 Carat Gold frame, with a worn French Mark to the fastener for the steel pin.
