Description
While some spinel colours like red, pink, and purple are highly sought after, pinkish-orange spinel is considered rare and valuable.
It wasn't until 1783 that French mineralogist Jean-Baptiste Louis Romé de l'Isle developed a test to differentiate spinel from ruby, based on their distinct chemical compositions.
The mines of Southeast Asia, particularly those in Burma and the Badakshan region of Afghanistan, have historically yielded some of the finest and largest spinel, including those found in royal collections
