Description
A mid 18th Century English verge with gold champleve calendar dial in gold repousse pair cases and protective third outer case. Full plate fire gilt movement with square baluster pillars. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Pierced and engraved masked cock, pierced and engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc. Plain three arm gilt balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Signed gold champleve dial, date aperture below the centre, arcaded minute ring. Roman and Arabic numerals, fine blue steel hands, unusual pierced minute hand and beetle hour hand. Plain 22 carat gold inner case, gold pendant and bow, maker's mark "DP" in a rectangle. Finely chased and engraved 22 carat gold outer depicting a scene of a seated woman pointing details of a document to two military figures. Third protective gilt metal case covered in black leather and decorated with a geometric pattern of gilt pique pins.
In excellent overall condition. The well executed repousse scene showing no signs of wear having been kept in the protective outer. The black leather covering of the outer also in untouched condition with intact pinwork. Casemaker David Pullen, Coleman Street, free of the clockmakers company 1745.
