Description
A rare mid Victorian desk seal featuring a handle carved from a single piece of banded agate with a warm, translucent glow. A finely modelled 15ct gold serpent, the Victorian symbol for eternity, coils around the mount. The base is set with a deep green bloodstone matrix, intricately engraved with the French sentiment: “PAIX À MON AMIE” (Peace to my friend). A beautiful, intimate object of vertu that works as a sculptural desk piece or a functional wax seal. Excellent antique condition throughout.
