Victorian Banded Agate & Enamel Gold Locket Pendant | c.1880s
Victorian Banded Agate & Enamel Gold Locket Pendant | c.1880s
POA
Description
An English pendant locket from the 1880s, set in 15ct yellow gold and centred with a high-domed cabochon banded agate in rich black, white, and deep rust tones.
The bezel is edged in fine detail in blue and white enamel framing the stone.
Where the pale band meets the brown, a bright red fire appears in certain light, a natural phenomenon caught in the stone.
The reverse opens to reveal a working locket compartment designed to hold a photograph or small keepsake.
It’s beautifully made, with weight and proportion, and the colours have depth with a flash of fire.
4.5cm long and 3cm wide.
A very elegant, wearable and collectible piece of Victorian jewellery.
