Victorian Bloodstone and Carnelian Locket | Pendant in 15ct Gold, c.1880

Description
A rare and beautifully made 15ct gold locket pendant from the late Victorian era, c.1880.
One side is set with polished bloodstone, the other a carnelian seal stone, deeply engraved with a family crest - a lion rising from a coronet above a shield. - both framed in a minimal square bezel that opens on a hidden hinge.
Originally created as a gentleman’s watch fob in the late 19th century, this beautifully crafted locket has been subtly adapted into a striking modern pendant.
The locket opens smoothly to reveal a hidden compartment inside, historically used to hold a protective charm or keepsake.
What makes this piece exceptional is its dual identity: an emblem of Victorian masculinity reimagined with quiet refinement for today.
It’s rare to find such crisp craftsmanship in such a wearable form - both gemstones are in excellent condition, the hinge is secure, and the scale (1.5cm x 1.5cm) makes it ideal for layering or wearing solo.
A nod to tradition, but with just enough edge for 2025.
Effortlessly wearable, layered or solo - and as relevant now as it was in the 1880s.
Chain length: 41cm.
