Rare Early Victorian Dog Model Brooch. Realistically modelled 3D King Charles spaniel mounted under slightly domed glass. The image is framed in 15ct yellow gold with beautiful scrolling foliage on the 4 corners. Behind the modelled dog there is a beautifully painted wood and lake scene with a swan and ornate building. The dog is resting on grass and sand in the foreground giving the image depth. The style of brooch was very popular in the Victorian period and represents the fascination of sentimentality as well as romanticised country life. The dog modelled in the brooch strongly resembles the beloved spaniels associated with Queen Victoria. The brooch measures at 53mm x 45mm.
