Victorian Ruby & Diamond Marquise Ring | 18ct Gold | c.1900
Victorian Ruby & Diamond Marquise Ring | 18ct Gold | c.1900
POA
Description
A beautifully made ruby and diamond marquise ring, crafted in 18ct gold and dating to around 1900.
At its centre is a vivid, natural ruby of approximately 0.30 carats, framed by a glimmering halo of old-cut diamonds totaling around 0.20 carats.
The stones are set in a marquise-shaped face that sits low and comfortably on the hand, giving a striking horizontal profile that feels both classic and quietly distinctive.
Interestingly, the marquise cut - a narrow oval with pointed ends, also known as a navette (French for “little boat”) - was allegedly commissioned by Louis XV to resemble the lips of his mistress, the Marquise de Pompadour.
The tapered shoulders lead into a simple gold shank, allowing the gemstone setting to take centre stage.
British-made and hallmarked, this is a ring full of period charm - elegant, refined, and easy to wear every day.
A timeless antique piece with just the right amount of drama.
Ring size O.
