Description
A charming flower basket brooch in 18ct gold, worked as a woven basket of finely plaited gold wire from which springs a spray of flowers and richly engraved gold leaves, the whole framed by a twisted rope-work border. Each blossom is formed of turquoise cabochons in the manner of a forget-me-not, centred with a rose-cut diamond that catches the light against the soft blue of the stones.
The flower basket — the giardinetto, or "little garden" — is one of the most enduring motifs in jewellery, and the forget-me-not has long carried its own quiet message of remembrance and constancy. Beautifully hand-made, with real depth and texture to the goldwork, it is a generous and cheerful brooch that wears wonderfully on a lapel or collar.
