A Pair of George III Sterling Silver Corinthian-Column Candlesticks, London, 1763
£4,700.00
Description
An attractive pair of George III antique sterling silver candlesticks, hallmarked in London in 1763 by the silversmith Emick Romer. Each candlestick is elegantly modelled in the neoclassical style, featuring a finely detailed Corinthian column with a distinctive capital, raised upon an elaborate square base. The bases are adorned with sunken fluting, beautifully chased acanthus-leaf decoration at the corners, and gadrooned borders, demonstrating the refined craftsmanship and classical influences characteristic of the period.
The architectural form and richly ornamented bases lend the pair an imposing yet elegant presence, making them particularly desirable examples of mid-18th-century English silverware. Both candlesticks are filled for stability and balance.
Each candlestick measures approximately 31 cm (12.2 in) in height, with a base measuring 13 × 13 cm (5.1 × 5.1 in).
