Silver Merchants Ring.
Dated to late 18th Century.
Hand engraved with the Merchants symbol & floral motifs.
Merchants rings were engraved with geometric symbols used to mark their goods or personal belongings.
Merchants marks were a key part of commercial and Social Life - they were used to seal deeds as a legal signature to settle disputes over ownership when goods had gone astray through theft, shipwreck or piracy.
Engraving worn as constant with the age of the ring.
