Tobacco Box, Kinta, lower Perak – 19th century
This Oblong Tobacco box ornamented with beautifully rendered silver gilt panels of chassed floral scrolls. The hinged lid with suasa gold on four corners and chassed work on the front back and sides. The centre of the lid with a gold panel of repousse leafy vine in relief. Three beaded flower heads sit on top of the panel with the centre flower slightly larger and of gold. A band of abstracted flower heads borders the central panel. The base of plane unornamented silver.
The chasings on the base are a particularly fine example of Malay floral ornamentation.
