Description
Chinese famille verte cockerel circular tureen and cover, Kangxi (1662-1722), the exterior of the bowl with large clusters of iron-red and gilt leafy peony with seed heads, hibiscus and prunus, the foot with a narrow band of lappets, the rim with two opposing pairs of cartouches containing prawns or fish with waterweeds against a floral and hatch ground, the shallow domed cover similarly decorated with a cockerel finial surrounded by a double band of ruyi, the interior decorated with a bird in flight above a spray of peony, the cavetto with floral sprays beneath a band of ruyi; diameter: 9 ¼ in.
