Early Victorian Banded Agate Cameo Ring - Saddingtons Jewellery Stand 375
Early Victorian Banded Agate Cameo Ring - Saddingtons Jewellery Stand 375
£1,150.00
Description
This Early Victorian Banded Agate Cameo Ring features a beautifully hand-carved classical female profile, skilfully worked from a single piece of naturally layered banded agate. The contrasting white portrait against the deep black ground creates the striking three-dimensional effect for which hardstone cameos are so admired. The elegant oval cameo is simply bezel set in an 18ct gold shank, allowing the quality of the carving to take centre stage, while the sculptural shoulders give the ring a particularly attractive early Victorian character. Classical imagery was enormously influential in 19th-century jewellery, with finely carved hardstone cameos appearing in rings and other jewels throughout the period. The head of the ring measures 1.6mm x 2.05mm. The ring weighs 4.g and can be resized.
