Description
This is an Iberian 18th-century necklace (circa 1720–1760) set in silver with foiled-back topaz, garnet, and rock crystal. The necklace is designed in a floral pattern, with alternating clusters of red garnets and topazes arranged along the length. The stones are foil-backed, a common 18th-century technique used to enhance their colour and reflectivity. Together, the necklace contains approximately 25–30 carats of topaz and 25–30 carats of garnet. At the centre is a larger decorative drop featuring two quartz (rock crystal) stones totalling around 10 carats, surrounded by additional garnets and topazes. The necklace fastens with a ribbon, and is preserved in its original fitted box.
The length is 31cm and the centre drop is 5.8cm long.
