Description

Pair of Japanese blue and white vases, c.1700, Edo period, of ovoid form, each decorated to the body with ogee-shaped panels containing peony and seedheads issuing from rockwork with birds against a ground of scrolling fronds, the shoulders decorated with further shaped cartouches containing sprays of chrysanthemum, the neck with flowerhead cartouches, the narrow tapering foot with lappets.
