Russian imperial Fabergé jewelled-gold pen knife made by August Hollming, St Petersburg, c.1900.
Marked 56 for Russian gold with the marker’s marks ‘A*H’ for August Hollming and ‘Fabergé’ in Cyrillic.
This incredible piece of art is decorated with three sapphire cabochons and rose-cut diamonds;rose gold suspension loop applied with two ruby cabochons. Also, engraved with the date ‘1904’ and applied with crowned monogram of Nikolas II.
The Imperial monogram makes it clear that the knife was a personal item of the Emperor Nicholas II. The year 1904 marks the birth of Tsarevich Aleksei (the knife could have been a memorable present for that event ).
