An exceptional Victorian Holbeinesque Multi-Gem Pendant, beautifully crafted in 15ct yellow gold and richly decorated with vibrant enamelling, natural pearls, rose-cut diamonds, pink sapphires and Colombian emeralds. Inspired by the magnificent Renaissance jewels collected and popularised during the 19th-century revival of artist Hans Holbein’s designs, this is a striking example of Victorian craftsmanship and artistic design. At its centre sits an oval pink sapphire, framed by sparkling rose-cut diamonds and surrounded by four natural pearls and four beautifully matched Colombian emeralds. Intricate white and royal blue enamel decoration provides a striking contrast to the rich yellow gold, enhancing the jewel’s bold architectural form. The pendant is completed with a decorative surmount set with a square-cut pink sapphire and an articulated drop terminating in a pear-shaped pink sapphire, allowing gentle movement and adding elegance to the overall design. Every element has been carefully balanced, creating a pendant that is both colourful and highly sophisticated. Jewellery in the Holbeinesque style became highly fashionable during the second half of the 19th century, drawing inspiration from the richly enamelled, gem-set jewels depicted in the portraits of Hans Holbein the Younger. These elaborate creations were favoured by collectors and remain among the most desirable examples of Victorian revival jewellery today.
