Description
A beautiful 1918 blue enamel butterfly brooch crafted in silver and fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1918. The outstretched wings are decorated in wonderfully vibrant turquoise-blue enamel, with finely worked detail beneath the translucent enamel giving the wings a delicate, almost iridescent appearance. The body is picked out in a deeper cobalt blue enamel, contrasting beautifully with the brighter wings. The butterfly is finished with elegant curled silver antennae and a traditional pin fitting to the reverse. The piece weighs 18.9g and measures 6.5cm x 4.5cm, this is a particularly substantial butterfly brooch, its generous proportions giving the vibrant enamel work wonderful presence when worn. This brooch was made by John Atkins & Sons, numbered 2577. Please contact us if you would like to know more about this lovely brooch or visit us at Saddingtons Jewellery, Mayfair.
