This 1929 Suffragette Diamond, Emerald & Amethyst Half Hoop Ring is a striking and unusual period ring, fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1929. Crafted in 18ct yellow gold, the broad half-hoop design features a beautiful row of graduated old-cut diamonds, totalling approximately 0.60ct, alongside alternating round emeralds and amethysts. The stones are arranged across the finger in a wonderfully rich combination of white, green and violet. The green, white and violet colour palette has become strongly associated with Suffragette jewellery. While the ring dates from 1929, after the principal British suffrage campaigns, the distinctive colour combination gives it a clear connection to the visual language associated with the movement. The old-cut diamonds are especially attractive, with the individual character and softer brilliance associated with hand-cut antique stones.
