Description

Of baluster form, vigorously drawn in shades of underglaze blue, the upper body painted with two large panels divided from one another by two thin bands of convolvulus, each panel containing houses and buildings picked out in richly differentiated brick patterning, below and to the side of the buildings, a garden scene with, on the right, a lady and her attendants, one holding a banner, another offering a brocaded cushion, above, from the ramparts of a turreted building, flags flying from each of its two towers, two ladies, one with a child on her back, looking on, the second panel, with similar subject matter and decoration with the same ladies in slightly different poses, both panels containing, to the left of one of the attendant ladies, a vase containing a peacock feather and a flowering stem, the two panels set above a wide band of circular cartouches of stylized sprays set on a finely delineated ground of roundels and honeycomb patterning, the lower part of the vase decorated with a band of stylized, elongated ruyi-heads between inverted 'V's, the rim below the collar and the base with chevron borders of stylized flower heads, the base itself glazed with a central decoration of a double ring, the cover with a circular panel inside a border of reversed and elongated ruyi-heads.
