£11,000.00
Description
A Victorian diamond, silver and gold flower necklace, featuring an old-cut diamond and cut down set centrepiece of three flowers, at the front, with four, grain set, petals and diamonds on stalks between, the flowers are separated by two knife edge batons, with a diamond at each end, with a similar, larger baton below the central flower, two knife edge curves, with diamonds in the centre, connecting the lower edges of the central and outer flowers and knife edges, with three diamonds, either side of the outer flowers, onto a trace chain, with six diamonds, in cut down settings, spaced from the front, mounted in silver-upon-gold, in a John Byrne & Son fitted case, circa 1890.
John Byrne & Son, of 10 Bold Street, Liverpool and 83 Hatton Garden, London, started out as Tiedemann & Byrne but by the late 1880s, John Byrne had taken sole ownership of the business. In 1899/1900 he renovated the shop (‘Important Notice’ from January 1st 1900) and the sign that’s visible now might be from that date. Byrne died on 26th November 1915. The business continued in Byrne’s name until 1937 when it went into liquidation, closing down permanently on 22nd January 1938.
