Description

Chinese famille-verte multi-faceted vase, Kangxi (1662-1722), of slender elongated baluster form, the body decorated with two rows of shaped cartouches; the lower row containing qilin on a rocky hillside, alternating with scenes of lotus and swimming waterfowl; the upper row containing sages wandering in lakeside landscapes with mountains and pagodas, alternating with garden scenes of birds amongst blossoming peony and prunus, all interspersed by small florets; the neck with a floral cell band and four small cartouches containing qilin, below scholar's objects including beribboned scrolls, a weiqi board and vessels with feathers and coral, the cover of moulded form decorated with beribboned precious objects below an ogee-form band containing stylised half-lotus heads with scrolling foliage against a red cell ground.

Height: 55.7cm. (22 in.); height without cover: 45.8cm. (18 in.)

Condition: Chip to cover, starcrack to cover, hairline to rim.
