Description

Chinese silver mug, late 19th century, of European tankard form with an ornate curved dragon handle and ribbing to the rim and footrim; embossed with a scene of scholars in a wooded grove amongst bamboo and rockwork, with European-style buildings visible in the background, a group on one side engaged in a game of weiqi, a group on the other side exclaiming and pointing to the sky, where a writhing dragon is coiled amongst wisps of smoke; with presentation plaque engraved with the inscription ‘Montee MacCarthy Mor’, the base with character mark and initials S.S.
