Edwardian Suffragette Style Amethyst Peridot Diamond Brooch - Saddingtons Jewellery Stand 375
£1,250.00
Description
A beautiful Edwardian Suffragette Style Amethyst Peridot Diamond Brooch. The elegant elongated design features wonderfully intricate scrolling openwork, with 0.60cts of diamonds delicately set throughout to create a light and exceptionally pretty appearance. Two oval purple amethysts flank the vivid green peridot at the centre, creating the distinctive purple, white and green colour combination associated with the women’s suffrage movement. The diamonds are set in sympathetic silver whilst the pin and other stones are crafted in a warm yellow gold. These colours were adopted by the Women’s Social and Political Union in 1908, with purple representing dignity, white purity and green hope. Jewellery incorporating these colours became closely associated with the movement during the Edwardian period, although without specific provenance it cannot always be established whether an individual jewel was originally worn as a political statement. The piece weighs 7.8g and measures 6.7cm x 1cm. Beautifully detailed and unmistakably Edwardian in design, this is an elegant antique jewel.
