French André Kahn Art Deco Platinum Diamond Choker Necklace or Pair of Bracelets, 20 Carats, Circa 1930

Description

A French, Art Deco, diamond necklace or pair of bracelets, by André Kahn, each bracelet is designed as eight, decorative panel sections with alternating, geometric, designs, set with round brilliant-cut, eight-cut, baguette and marquise-cut diamonds, weighing an estimated total of 20.00 carats, in rub over and grain settings, mounted in platinum, with white gold clasp fittings. The two bracelets can be connected, to be worn as a choker necklace. Each bracelet has two dog head marks for platinum, with eagle head marks, for white gold, on the clasps, the tongues and box clasps are numbered 2, 3 and 4. There is an indistinct maker's mark, with the initials A K, with a tower symbol, circa 1930.

André Kahn was an early twentieth century Parisian jewellery manufacturer and master goldsmith. He first established his workshop at 87 Rue de Turenne, in Paris. He subsequently moved to 8 Rue Laurent Pichat. His final workshop was located at 5 Rue Volta, in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris, in the heart of the Marais district, which historically was a home to artisans. He created fine jewellery and goldsmithing items in precious metals and gemstones. As is the case with many master goldsmiths, his works are likely to have been sold, anonymously, by high end retailers, with his maker's mark the only record of his fine work.

His maker's mark as a goldsmith, was registered on 22nd May, 1924. The mark was cancelled on 17th October, 1930. The Assay Office register number was 4126
