£6,950.00
Description
A French antique sapphire and diamond crescent brooch, with a graduating row of cushion-cut sapphires, spaced with tiny rose-cut diamonds either side, with a row of old mine-cut diamonds, graduating from the centre, in the inner curve, terminating in rose-cut diamonds, in grain settings, in the points of the crescent with rose-cut diamonds at the ends, with a flat edge on the inside and cut down settings on the outside curve, with a gold scalloped gallery below, mounted in silver-upon-gold, with a removable pin and c catch, with French eagle head marks, for 18ct gold, on the gallery and pin, circa 1890. In Victorian symbolism the crescent or new moon represented a new relationship, hopeful it will "wax" into matrimony.
