A wonderful Georgian rock crystal rivière necklace, circa 1800, set with a graduated series of beautifully faceted rock crystal stones in silver. With four later added rock crystal links to extend the length. The necklace features a swivel fitting to the centre, designed for suspending an additional pendant, and is finished with a gold-tongued clasp. Known as “Minas Novas”, these highly faceted rock crystal stones take their name from the Brazilian region historically associated with their source. Particularly fashionable during the Georgian period, they were cut to maximise their brilliance and were widely used in Portuguese and Iberian jewellery to create a wonderfully diamond-like sparkle. A beautiful and increasingly rare example of a Georgian rock crystal rivière, with wonderfully bright and generously proportioned stones.
