Georgian Spinel Basket Ring
£16,500.00
Description
An exceptional Georgian spinel and diamond ring, circa 1720–1760, crafted in silver and 18ct gold. The ring is set with an impressive octagonal step-cut natural spinel weighing approximately 5.00 carats and measuring 12.10 x 10.60mm. The purplish-pink spinel is foil-backed, as was characteristic of the period, and is flanked by twelve old single-cut diamonds totalling approximately 0.25 carats, J–K colour and SI1–SI2 clarity. The stones are arranged in a wonderful Georgian basket setting, with a distinctive ribbed shank continuing around the finger. A rare and beautifully preserved example of an early Georgian spinel ring, with wonderful character and presence.
