The front piece is a snap plate closure that measures 2.3cm x 2cm. The band is black velvet. This choker measures 13 inches long. The script on the back reads ‘My dear Sister Sophia MacDonald. Obr, Wednesday 29 Sept. 1824. Aged 27. M, Keppel.’ Mary and Sophia Keppel’s brother George (6th Earl of Albemarle), is the Grandfather to George Keppel whom married Alice Keppel. Alice is the notorious mistress of King Edward 7th. Alice Keppel is also the great, great, great grandmother of the current Queen Camila. The second choker features 34 turquoise round stones that are set in a silver buckle. In the centre there is a 15ct gold prong bar that fastens the choker.
