Description

Meissen teabowl, circa 1740, decorated in overglaze enamels and gilt with a continuous watery landscape scene, with two main figures standing amongst workmen, ropes, cargo and low shrubbery, distant buildings and ship sails visible in the background, all above two double red lines to the foot, the rim with a band of gilt, the interior with a central roundel in purple manganese containing a further harbour scene with figures by the water’s edge, contained within double red lines; the base with crossed swords mark in underglaze blue.
