Description

Pair of Chinese blue and white porcelain vases, Kangxi (1662-1722), of bulbous form with long slender necks and flared rims, decorated in underglaze blue with mythical beasts with forked tails and tufted heads among scrolling clouds and floral sprays above waves, the tall foot-rims with a band of lotus scrolls, the slim necks with scrollwork and stiff leaves, the bases with single flower marks in underglaze blue.

Height: 24cm. (9 1/2in.)

Condition:

Restored to a high standard

Similar vases can be found in the collection of the Rijksmuseum (see Jorg, C. ‘Chinese Ceramics in the Collection of the Rijksmuseum’, Amsterdam, pl.319 p.276) and the Salting Bequest, Victoria and Albert Museum (C.609-1910). Further examples can also be found in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (47.86) and in the collection of the National Trust at Tyntesfield, North Somerset (NT 11745)
