Description
Rare massive Chinese blue and white charger, early Kangxi (1662-1722), finely painted in a bright underglaze cobalt-blue, with a lotus head in a central roundel encompassed by four bands of radiating lotus-shaped panels containing sprays of flowers, the outer curves of the panels filled with stylised ruyi heads, the thin rim band filled with scrolling flowers, the underside of the rim with the eight Buddhist auspiciious symbols The base with a double foot rim, the centre with a Buddhist auspicious symbol of a coiled conch in under-glaze blue
