Victorian Diamond & Enamel Hercules Portrait Brooch. An exceptional antique late Victorian classical portrait brooch, centred with an enamel plaque depicting a heroic Greco-Roman male profile traditionally identified as Hercules. Rendered in rich sepia and ivory tones, the finely detailed portrait displays strong Neo-Classical influence, inspired by ancient Roman and Grand Tour artistic traditions so admired during the 19th century. The oval portrait plaque is framed by a glittering border of 33 old-cut diamonds, totalling to 1ct in a silver-topped gold setting, creating beautiful contrast and soft antique brilliance. The brooch measures 2.8cm x 2.2cm. Pieces of this nature were often collected as expressions of education, travel and appreciation for antiquity. This piece comes in the box pictured.
