Description

Chinese blue and white klapmutz bowl, Kangxi (1662-1722), with everted rim, painted in underglaze cobalt blue to the exterior with four panels, two of which contain either a lady reading a letter in a fenced garden with two attendants, or a group inside a pavilion, alternating with panels of calligraphy, the everted rim with five cartouches containing precious objects against a liewen ground, the interior with a central roundel containing two children playing in a landscape within concentric bands, the inner rim with cartouches containing peaches against further liewen ground, the base with a six character Kangxi mark to the base. The inscription relates to the ‘Romance of the Western Chamber’.

Dimensions:

Diameter: 16 cm. (6 5/16 in.); height: 7.5cm. (3 in.)

Condition:

One shallow chip and two small chips one with an associated faint hairline approximately 5 cm.

Notes:
This bowl is a rare size, it is slightly smaller than usual.
