POA
Description
Chinese blue and white octagonal export plate, Qianlong (1736-95) decorated in the centre with a stylized lotus flower, bordered by eight lotus petals each enclosing a lotus head against a scroll-work ground.
Diameter: 24.4cm. (9 9/16in.)
Condition:
Fritting to rim
Notes:
This design was used in Chinese armorial porcelain, for an illustrated pair of plates with arms of Elias de Haze and Sara Sonmans see Howard & Ayers, China for the West, Vol. II, p. 444, pl. 450. Lotus-petal patterns became popular in Chinese export porcelain of the 1750s (perhaps due to Near Eastern influences) and there are numerous examples in famille rose and rouge-de-fer.
