Description
Chinese famille verte dish, early Kangxi (1662-1722), decorated with a qilin in a fenced garden confronting a phoenix circling beneath cloudscrolls, the verdant landscape with rockwork, bamboo and a jardinière containing lingzhi and fruiting branches, the reverse with floral sprays, and a lozenge in underglaze blue mark to the base within a double footrim; ; condition: broken and restored to a high standard. The phoenix and qilin were two of the Four Auspicious Animals and together represent harmony in the universe.
