Description
Chinese inscribed lacquer plaque, 17th century, decorated on one side with a standing official in flowing robes with two attendants; one behind him holding a fan, the other kneeling in front bearing a libation cup on a tray, in a landscape with a pine tree hung with creepers and bamboo issuing from rockwork, the reverse with a large beribboned banqing (a sonorous stone) above a cartouche with chamfered edges containing a watery landscape scene with two boats and a pagoda underneath willow trees, all within a band of zigzag pattern and stylised half flowerheads to the rim.
Condition: Crack, wear to one corner.
