Japanese dish, Edo (1603-1868), circa 1700, decorated to the central roundel with four ho-ho birds; two perched upon a rocky outcrop, another two in flight, surrounded by peony heads and stylised foliage, the wide rim with eight alternating panels containing flowers in bloom or precious objects, interspersed by pendant tassels
