Long Pinchbeck Chain | Turquoise Barrel Clasp | Victorian c.1850
Long Pinchbeck Chain | Turquoise Barrel Clasp | Victorian c.1850
POA
Description
This beautiful long Victorian chain is made from Pinchbeck, a clever gold substitute invented by London clockmaker Christopher Pinchbeck.
With its rich, antique gold tone and textured surface, it offers all the warmth and visual weight of high carat gold, measuring an impressive 122cm in length and 9mm in width, it was likely worn as a muff chain, looped once or twice around the neck and clipped to a fur handwarmer, or fastened with a watch or locket.
The clasp is beautifully barrel set with natural turquoise cabochons.
Today, it is as beautiful and versatile worn wrapped and layered with fine chains or left long as a statement piece.
