Description

Of spirally fluting baluster form, the moulded body decorated in underglaze blue and famille verte enamels vibrantly painted with many blossoms including lotus, chrysanthemum, prunus and others amidst flowering foliate meanders within moulded lotus petal bands at the shoulder and foot, with a narrow decorative band above a wide flat splayed foot decorated with stylized leaves and flowerheads in alternate green and iron red, the neck decorated sprays of flower heads and leaves with further bands of triangle work dividing the narrow central stem from the body, the cover similarly decorated with moulded lotus panels and panels of flowerheads surmounted by a pointed finial with further moulded raised flowerheads, the base glazed.

Period: Kangxi (1662-1722)

The spiral form seen on this vase is similar to blue and white vases recovered from the shipwreck of the Vung Tao cargo dating to 1680.
