Description
Small Japanese Arita Imari bowl, c.1700, decorated to the exterior with stylised tulip-shaped cartouches and sprays of flowers including peony, prunus, dianthus and chrysanthemum, the foot with blue arabesque scroll and the rim with small star cartouches against red cell ground; the interior rim with an undulating band of chrysanthemum and rockwork, the central well with a cockerel and hen beside a spray of cherry blossom and a flowing river.
